4 Ways To Recycle Your Child's Used School Supplies

The backpack has become the symbol for school life.well, that and the ubiquitous 'hoodie' hooded sweatshirt. Our children have been carrying backpacks since third grade. A friend and I were harking back to our school days and neither of us remember ever having a backpack until college. Backpacks were for hikers and Boy Scouts. I suppose that I had a tote-bag in high school but it wasn't mandatory. Now I don't think a student would be let into school without that regulation backpack. The backpack has become a portable locker in schools. Our local high school is so large and difficult to navigate that most students don't see their lockers from September to May.

If your school permits, consider using a rolling backpack, which will take the weight off of the child's back. But it is important to remember that these bags often are hard to wheel in crowded areas, up/down stairways, and can cause tripping hazards.

The middle school kid, soon to be an 8th grader, is actually leaning away from the traditional school backpack. he thinks it would be cool to carry a messenger bag for all his school stuff. Right now, the choice seems to be the Timbuk2 Messenger bag, largely because it is a laptop messenger bag. The kid no longer carries books as his laptop actually has all the text books loaded, so he really just needs enough space for the computer and what he calls 'his school supplies' aka: junk. Timbuk2 messenger bags are actually on sale on Irv's Luggage, so maybe he'll be a little cost conscious for the mom who has to pay the bills. We'll see.

Then help kids use the scissors to cut out the letters. After the letters are cut out, help kids trace their name on the foam letters using the fabric paint. They can add patterns to the shapes as well if they like by using the fabric paints.

Place your child's used school art supplies in the plastic flatware tray. For example, put colored markers in one section, crayons in another section and so on. Place the leftover glue and the used scissors in the wider space in the plastic flatware tray. Set your child's leftover notebook and construction paper on top of the tray of used school art supplies. Now your child has an orderly art center at home. None of his old school backpack art supplies have gone to waste. They will be on hand to be used for as long as they will last.

When you take your whole family camping, you will be responsible for packing all the essential gear and supplies that you will need at camp. Make a list of the things that your children need to bring and ensure that they do bring the items on the list. You should also make sure that you have good backpacks your children can use on the trip.

A paperback dictionary, preferably with a thesaurus included, and especially with word origins included. These can remain packed away during spelling tests and at other times be kept at hand.

The greatest aspect of this Harry Potter backpack is that it offers much at a low price. Both the main and front compartments have zip closure. While smaller than the main compartment, the front section is much larger than average school backpacks. I would recommend this bag because of its accommodation capabilities. It is both stylish and roomy. The Harry Potter Denim Backpack can be purchased for under $19.
